General
Does Atlaca cacao affect serotonin or mood chemistry?
Yes. Cacao naturally contains compounds associated with mood and emotional wellbeing, including precursors and modulators linked to serotonin and other feel-good pathways.
It also contains anandamide — often called the “bliss molecule” - which is associated with feelings of contentment and connection.
These effects come from the whole plant, not synthetic additives.
How does Atlaca cacao affect the nervous system?
Atlaca cacao supports the nervous system through naturally occurring compounds that help regulate mood, stress response and emotional balance.
Rather than stimulating the nervous system like caffeine, cacao supports a more balanced and regulated state.
Is this the same as cocoa powder or chocolate?
Not at all. Ceremonial cacao is minimally processed, pure cacao — not defatted, not sweetened, and never mixed with additives. It’s a whole food, not a powder.
Do you alkalize your cacao?
We don’t alkalize our cacao. It’s a common industrial process that makes things easier — but at a cost. Alkalization dulls the acidity, removes antioxidants, strips out cacao butter, and flattens the bean’s natural complexity. By keeping our cacao in its pure form, we preserve its full flavor and its functional benefits.
Is your cacao organic?
Our cacao is grown on protected indigenous land in southern Mexico, where industrial development is absent and ownership is reserved for native communities. While not all of our partners are formally certified organic, the cacao is cultivated without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, in biodiverse ecosystems untouched by modern infrastructure.
What is the shelf life?
While cacao can last up to 18 months if kept in a cool, dry place, we recommend finishing it within 6 months for peak flavor and aroma. Fresher is always better.
Is Atlaca cacao safe for daily use?
Yes. Atlaca cacao is a whole, natural food that has been consumed traditionally for thousands of years.
When consumed in typical beverage amounts, it is safe for daily use for most healthy adults.
